Our history

The history of the Local Initiatives Factory Association (FIL) is the history of individual places and the changes they have undergone.

This history is relatively short, if perceived in the categories of time and compared with the long and turbulent history of Silesia, the region where we mainly work. But it is a big one if measured by its results, the best example of which is the considerable change that has taken place in the small estate of Nikiszowiec. Because we are fascinated by little histories – from the perspective of individual people and their communities, the space surrounding them and its history. That is why we see the greatest potential in what is local – in small communities living in their own districts and estates, which are able to change the place where they live effectively and thoroughly.

And that is exactly why our main aim is SUPPORTING THEM IN CHANGE and GIVING SPACE for development. We discovered the power of locality in Nikiszowiec, where we have been working continuously for many years. But our history does not end in Nikiszowiec, and it does not end in Silesia.

We also work in other parts of the metropolitan area, where we help to diagnose problems, to look for the potential for development, and to map out and carry through the path of change. We have worked with local communities in Bytom, Ruda Śląska, Zabrze, Tychy and Sosnowiec. We are always glad to share our experience in other parts of Poland as well. We also take part in building good revitalisation practice in Poland.

We look forward to working with you!
